The Fast and the Furious surprised many with its accessible car-based action. It introduced the world to Vin Diesel, but sadly he is missing from this follow up. Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner is now joined by his child hood friend gone sour Roman Pearce (played by Tyrese). They must use their immense driving talents and street knowledge to infiltrate an evil empire and clear their names.

Eva Mendez and Devon Aoki replace the eye candy that Michelle Rodreguez provided in the first film. As the double agent going to any length’s Eva’s character also provides an ample distraction for Paul Walker, as he plays a role perfectly suited to him. I’m not saying that the boy can act, just that he can act perfectly for the level this part requires.

It’s going to be a recurring pub/forum argument; but just which of the two films is best? Well for my money, I’d say the plot was more enjoyable in the first film, but this sequel gives the viewer all they could ask for too. The action is fun, fast and downright furious. Ahem. Seriously though, if you want a no brainer-action film, you could do a whole lot worse than this.

If you have already allowed your eye’s to wonder to the score, you may feel I have been a little over enthusiastic. Possibly, but I don’t feel it right to judge a film of this type as anything but what it is. It was never going to change the world, or the way we think about film making, but it is solid enjoyable and entertaining. You could do a lot worse than that when setting out to make a film.
